Good news for homes owners and buyers in January, is that according the Halifax house price survey, prices actually rose 1.9% in January, from December's figure. Could this be the early signs that the worst of the housing difficulties are behind us? Who knows, but the survey makes interesting reading, and you can access it via either this BBC housing news item, or on the web site of the Halifax themselves. It has to be said that during the same period another survey by the nationwide still credited a 1.3% fall in prices, so there is by no means a strong consensus as yet. However house prices in Cornwall have not had the dramatic drops seen in some areas, with opinion divided as to whether the distance from London, the strong showing of Cornwall's holiday industry, and the significant European "Convergence" development funding flowing into Cornwall may be insulating us from the worst effects of the crunch. And anyway we think in Cornwall, what price can you put on sunshine, easy access to the beach, the longest life expectancy and best lifestyle in the UK? |
